The Lyrid meteor shower originates from the comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher. When the Earth passes through the debris left by this comet, tiny particles enter the Earth’s atmosphere at high speeds, resulting in visible streaks of light, or meteors, that radiate from the constellation Lyra.
